Day 10: Riga to Vilnius

We woke late-ish, packed up our gear and tidied the apartment whilst simultaneously having breakfast.

The travel time from Riga to Vilnius is 3.5hrs. The roads are OK, but not quite motorway standard for the most part. Again the speed limit was mostly 90km/hr.

There was a lot of construction works en route and this added about 1hr to the journey. There was also a lot of trucks travelling from Latvia to Lithuania and vice versa, which is tough on the road surface I imagine.

The architecture of some of the buildings in the outer most suburbs of Vilnius are quite Soviet blockesque and I took this poor quality picture of one of the apartment buildings in this style. The buildings closer to the centre are much more modern and the old town is quite beautiful as you will see.

We arrived at the apartment (Sv. Myloko 10a) at about 16:30. It is very spacious, way more than we need and very centrally located. Our host Rokas is very genial and helpful, giving us loads of recommendations for things to do and see in Vilnius.

After dropping the bags we took a wander to discover some of the old town.

And then went for a late lunch/dinner, which was a shared platter of pork belly (mostly fat), baby back ribs, steak, potatoes and picked vegetables. It was well tasty.

We explored a bit more and then stopped for a cherry milkshake (in a cool Stein) and a beer.

Having arrived late to Vilnius and realising that we wouldn't be able to see it all by the following day, we asked our host if we could stay 2 extra days.

This was no problem and we now have plenty of time to experience Vilnius.

We also had to rewrite this post again as Wix somehow deleted it...grrrr!
