Day 18: Bratislava

After breakfast in the apartment we did a little bit of research and decided to visit Bratislava castle and Devin Castle, which are two important historical and tourist locations in Bratislava.

Bratislava Castle in particular is very nice and showcases the architectural heritage of the city and is walking distance from the city, though uphill obviously. We noticed the building looked relatively modern.

The gardens in Bratislava Castle are also very nice. We stopped and had a cup of ginger tea in the on-site cafe and Alex found this nasty looking hornet, twice the size of a bee but you can't see thescale in the photo.

We decided to give lunch a miss and headed straight for Devin Castle. It's about 20 minutes from the city and we took a Bolt to get there which cost €9.50.

The castle was largely destroyed by the austro-hungarians and was quite interesting from a historical and aesthetic perspective. On the way up to the castle ,we found tons of these little tiny blue beetles .Actually they were relatively large. The Danube flows right by the castle and the views surrounding the castle and particularly of the Danube are splendid.

We did a considerable amount of walking up and down hills this day and so by the time it came to deciding where to eat for dinner I don't think we were particularly discerning and consequently neither of us were very happy with what we had.

We walked around Bratislava city center for a bit after dinner and the street life was quite vibrant, which was nice to see as Bratislava is not as easy to fall in love with as Tallinn or Vilnius and seeing people enjoying the city certainly adds positively to the experience.
