Day 17: Vienna to Bratislava

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

The train to Bratislava takes only about 1hr. The fields in the intervening countryside are full of corn, wheat and sunflowers, which is very nice to observe from the train.

We arrived at the train station in Bratislava and took a taxi to the apartment. The taxi driver charged us €20 even though subsequently we found out that we could have gotten a Bolt for €4. Not exactly Mr. personality either.

The apartment (Penzion Gremium) was spacious, though a bit rough and ready from an aesthetic perspective. The guy at the reception's english was limited, but he was quite helpful nonetheless. Unfortunately we forgot to take a picture.

Initial impressions were that Bratislava is not very well geared towards tourism. You have to work a little harder to find its charm, though I admit there is some relativism going on when making comparisons with Vilnius, Tallinn or Vienna for instance. Clearly though, like all European cities it has some awesome examples of artistic endeavour.

We had dinner at a nice(ish) restaurant, we both had steak. The meal was.....good!.

We grabbed some provisions at the local supermarket for our breakfast (milk, bananas, pastries - all good quality) the following morning before retiring to bed.
