Day 11: Vilnius

We had breakfast in the appartment, porridge for Alex and some slightly stale pastries (I'd bought the night before). Thankfully someone had left some nice Chinese tea in the apartment.

The centre of Vilnius' old town is the Palace of the grand dukes, which was only about 4 minutes walk from our apartment.

After visiting a few sites we went for lunch.

Pork for Ian and duck for Alex. Both very good. You can access excellent food in Vilnius, but it is quite tourist orientated so the prices can also be high. The food quality is generally excellent.

This is Gediminas castle tower. It is quite close to the palace of the grand dukes and offers great views of the city (old town and the modern part). The climb to the top is not too onerous but if you're lazy there is also a funicular.

In addition to walking up to the tower, we walked a good distance to see St. Peter & Paul's church, which is in the Baroque style.

Consequently we were knackered and had a light dinner in the apartment before heading to bed.
