Day 8 : Tallinn To Riga

We got up late this morning and had some breakfast. We then went to the airport to collect the rental car (Green Motion). We used a Bolt taxi to get there. I think Bolt is a Baltic thing but I'm not sure. Anyway they are a really great way to get around. They're quite inexpensive, though sometimes the drivers are a bit exuberant in their driving style.

The driving time from Tallinn to Riga is approximately 4 and 1/2 hours. We decided to stop in a small town called Parnu. We were quite fortunate there was a summer festival ongoing near the place we parked.

The festival food was mostly barbecued meet with potatoes and sauerkraut. Quite basic but really really tasty and filling. Here is another picture of Parnu.

The driving conditions in the baltics are pretty good for the most part, though I was surprised that the speed limit for most of the journey was only 90 km/hr.

The baltics are also much more forested compared to Ireland or the Netherlands, which makes for quite nice driving conditions.

The road from Tallinn to Riga goes mostly by the coast. So we decided to stop at one of the beaches and take a look. The sea was full of seaweed near the shore, but this didn't seem to stop people from enjoying a swim. And the view was great

We arrived in Riga relatively late. The apartment was okay, but generally I'm not a big fan of fold-out beds.

Also the area that the apartment was in, was a little more "down to earth". Some drivers in Latvia appear to be downright dangerous.

As we arrived late, we went directly to a nearby restaurant, Mamma Mia. Ian had the Saltimbocca, which was really not good and Alex had the duck which was fine. . The staff were really nice.

After dinner we just retired to bed.
