Day 9: Riga

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

We had breakfast in the appartment as we brought gluten-free porridge with us and bought some milk in the supermarket the previous night.

Apparently one of the most architecturally interesting streets is Albert Street, which was near our apartment. It does have some nice buildings like these.

but also this one which probably looked fantastic and its heyday but now looks quite dilapidated.

There are some really nice buildings in Riga, but unlike Stockholm, Helsinki and Tallinn they are distributed around the city and require some effort to locate.

This also lends the impression that Riga is not as beautiful as the other places, but it has its charms. It certainly is a bit edgier.

The weather didn't hold up for us on our second day in Riga, but we soldiered on with the site seeing nonetheless.

After completing our day of touring we had dinner in a restaurant called Gan Bei (which is the Chinese equivalent of Cheers) that was inside a giant shopping center. Alex enjoyed his meal (tikka masala) but Ian made the wrong choice as he doesn't really like sweet and sour chicken.
